Hello! Happy New Year! Welcome to Project Skincare!
I've been planning this blog for months and have put it off for so long but since it's the new year, I think this is the perfect time to begin this new skincare adventure. What better way to start 2019, right?
I mainly share skincare posts on Instagram under @projectskincare and although I am happy with the platform, I felt that having a proper venue will allow me to post better reviews, share more about skincare and give readers an easier time to find what they're looking for. I know what a pain it is to check a hashtag and go through numerous photos to find reviews on a product I am interested in. I really think that having an organized blog will be helpful (plus it will make my OC-self very happy)! Haha. So let me start by sharing a little bit about myself and Project Skincare.
I am Christine, a 37-year-old mom from Manila, Philippines. By profession, I am a freelance makeup artist (since 2007) and I am currently an affiliate artist for NARS and Laura Mercier. My interest in skincare started back in 2016 when I met a friend's friend who is a flight attendant based in Korea. Her skin was literally flawless and I couldn't help but ask what she does to have such gorgeous skin. She started talking about the 10-step Korean skincare routine and I listened.
I have heard of the multi-step routine before meeting her but I didn't really give it any attention. I was skeptical that it was just another promise of the impossible. Like a lot of people, my initial thought was that 10 steps is just plain excessive! Like who has time for that? But seeing is believing, right? And I am a visual person, so the possibility of having such lovely skin without regular trips to the dermatologist appealed to me greatly. I started researching about it and just got hooked! I was also VERY confused. Haha. Like what is the difference between an essence, serum, ampoule and whatnot! Needless to say, the more confused I got, the more I got sucked in to the skincare rabbit hole! Since none of my friends nor family were into Korean skincare then, I was desperate to connect with people to talk to and learn from. In September 2016, I created @projectskincare on Instagram and have met the nicest and most helpful people from the #ABcommunity. I honestly wasn't expecting so much kindness, it's just amazing! I also wanted it to become a personal visual diary so I can keep track of the products I've used and see what worked and didn't for me.
Before I began my Korean skincare routine journey, I used the basics - a wash-off cleanser, toner, moisturiser, eye cream and sunscreen. I actually thought I was being extra because makeup school taught us to just cleanse, tone and moisturize and I had two extra steps in my routine! Then again, I wasn't religious about them. Like when I finish a bottle of sunscreen or a tube of eye cream, I would go weeks or even a month or two without a replacement. I guess skincare was just not up there in my list of priorities. And I never really took the time to understand how a product worked. As long as a product was marketed for oily skin, I just went for it and hoped for the best. Being a makeup artist, I was naturally more focused on makeup products but when I started to take skincare seriously, I totally embraced the saying "skin first, makeup second". Good skin really is the best canvas for makeup.
The main reason why I fell in love with Korean skincare is because they focus more on nourishing the skin and making it healthy. My skin is far from perfect and I know that I will NEVER get to that level (what is "perfect"skin anyways?) but I can honestly say that it is happiest I have ever been about my skin in my whole life. It sounds superficial but I cannot deny the fact that it affects a person's confidence level! I also love how you can really customize your routine based on your skin's needs, giving you the power to reach your skin goals. With the wide array of products available in the market (not to mention that Korean beauty products are generally way more affordable than Western brands), you will find something to address your concerns. It is just a matter of constantly listening and understanding your skin and what it needs.
My skin type is oily and my current main concerns are fine lines, crows feet in the eye area and occasional breakouts. Eye care products are my ultimate obsession and unfortunately, I am still in the hunt for THE ONE. Do let me know if you know of some amazing ones! With regards to my oily skin type, I have learned to embrace and accept it. I mostly just try to keep it at bay vs obsessively trying to eliminate the oils. Thank goodness for the glowing/dewy skin trend! I love how people are so much more into natural and very "skin" makeup look nowadays!
If you've reached this far, thank you so much for reading thru my first ever post! I hope you join me as I continue to explore and learn more about the wonderful world of skin and self care! If you have any questions or would like to chat about skincare, I would love to hear from you! Connect with me thru email, Instagram or Facebook. :)
Happy New Year, everyone! May we all have happy skin all through out 2019!
Love,
Christine
