IG POST: DIY At-Home Facial

Originally posted on Instagram on July 22, 2017 https://www.instagram.com/p/BW0R18ZHetq/

I gave myself a facial last Sunday. I've been meaning to do it for months and I'm glad that I finally got around to it! I also got to use my facial steamer and comedo machine (#skincaretoys! 🎉😄) for the first time so that was really exciting! I spent about 3 hours doing my facial and that was looooong for me. I was pretty tired after but also felt relaxed. I do have to say that I bruised parts of my nose, cheeks and chin from using the comedo machine. It was my first time so I'll definitely be more careful when I use it again.

Anyway, I'm sharing with you the steps of my #DIYfacial in case any of you are interested. 😊 I needed a guide so I had to look up the steps and since there were variations, I listed down several recommended steps then came up with my own list based on what I found.

1. Cleanse - I would've double cleansed but since I wasn't wearing any makeup prior to my facial, I just washed my face with the #COSRX Low pH Good Morning Gel Cleanser.

2. Exfoliate - the Korean facial steps that I found online (from the theklog.co) said that instead of an exfoliating scrub, they use a cream-based enzyme exfoliator in Korea. Since I don't have a cream-based enzyme exfoliator, I used the #Kanebo Suisai Beauty Clear Powder. I also used the #Cogit Poroporo Enzyme Nose Face Cuticle Cotton Swab for the first time and I was quite impressed with it. It was able to remove this pesky blackhead that has been overstaying in my skin for a while now. 🤗

3. Steam - I enjoyed using the steamer. The water compartment was really small (and cute!) and was good for one session of steaming. Although I wasn't able to time how long I used it, I estimate it was around 10 mins. I also used distilled water as suggested online.

4. Extraction - this is where I used the #Krasr Comedo Suction Device. I was so excited that I forgot to sanitize the first attachment head that I used (😣) which was the microcrystalline probe that is used to massage and exfoliate the skin. Since the probe has a rough/textured tip, I just used the lowest suction power level. Next, I used the big circular probe and this is what bruised my skin. The suction power I used was only level 2 (it's up to 5) and it sucked up sebum and blackheads pretty well. It was gross but super satisfying at the same time. I was probably so determined to get rid of everything that's why I got bruises after. But I also made sure that I only do up to three suction passes per area (max) as suggested in a facial training video that I watched. I also should've used the small circular probe which weaker in suction power compared to the bigger one. When I finally decided to stop, there was this one persistent blackhead that was still there so I used my blackhead extraction tools and carefully removed it.

5. Moisturizing essence - I used the #Naruko Raw Jobs Tears Essence for its pore minimizing effect.

6. Sheet mask - I used #Innisfree It's Real Squeeze Mask Aloe since it's a soothing mask. By the time I've read that it contained alcohol, the mask was already on my face. Thankfully, it didn't irritate my skin further. It was hard to say if it did soothe my skin because all I could see were my red & purple bruises. But I'd like to think that it did help.

7. Mask pack - I used the #Lindsay All-In-One Brightening Pearl Modeling Mask and this was my first time to use this type of mask. I really enjoyed it but hated the mess and drips. I applied it while sitting down and it dripped like crazy. Since I had so much product left, I asked my husband to apply the remaining product on me while I lay down on the bed, just like in the spa videos I see here on IG. 💆🏻 By the time he started applying the leftover product on my face, the consistency got thicker so I ended up with a really lumpy mask which was far from the smooth texture in the videos. I liked the modeling mask and it's fun to use. Next time, I'm just going to ask my husband to apply it on me! 🙃 ⠀

8. Routine - this is the last step of my facial and I used the following:
#Naturie Hatomugi Skin Conditioner
#Missha FTE
#Skinmiso Pore Corset Serum
#Missha Time Revolution Night Repair Science Activator Borabit Ampoule
#SANA Namerakahonpo Wrinkle Eye Cream
#Naruko Raw Job's Tears Moisturizer
#Biore UV Face Milk

Additional thoughts:
Although I ended up with some bruising, I was able to deep cleanse my skin. I'm very happy with how my pores look clean. After my facial, I kept my routine very simple for about 2 days to help my skin recover and I'm happy to report that the bruises are gone. I will definitely do this again after a month and be very extra careful so I don't bruise my skin again. This experience makes me want to learn how to do a facial properly and I am very interested to take a course! Friends in the 🇵🇭, if you know any courses, please let me know! 😊
