I just finished testing using the jade roller continuously for three weeks, trying out three different face oils each week and I must say I am really in love with this traditional Chinese tool! Not only does it promote lymphatic drainage which detoxifies, it also helps tighten pores, improves blood circulation and skin elasticity, reduces puffiness and dark under eye circles. It also helps release tension in facial muscles while toning the cheekbones and jawline and plump out wrinkles. So much benefits from this tool!
As mentioned in a previous post, I will compare the three facial oils I've used with the jade roller and share my thoughts on them. Here is my usual routine when using the jade roller: double cleanse, pH adjusting toner, AHA, FTE, jade roller + face oil, eye cream, night cream. I use the jade roller in my night time routine and about 6-7 drops of oil to make sure that my face and neck has enough slip for the tool to roll smoothly and not tug on my skin. ⠀
The Oils and Their Benefits:
✨ Eden's Paradise 100% Pure African Marula Oil (MO) - contains healing and reparative ingredients, helps replenish moisture and fight free radicals, reduces redness and inflammation, contains 60 percent more antioxidants than other oils (including the well loved Argan), fast absorbing, super hydrating and will not break you out. Ideal for dry to oily skin types including very sensitive and sun damaged complexions.
✨ The Ordinary 100% Cold-Pressed Rose Hip Seed Oil (RHSO) - packed with vitamins, antioxidants, and essential fatty acids which helps correct dark spots and hydrate dry skin. It can also reduce scars and fine lines. It has skin rejuvenating properties like vitamin C and lycopene and is also good for sensitive skin types. It's non-greasy and light on the skin.
✨ Oshimatsubaki Camellia Oil (CO) - rich in antioxidants and vitamins, protects the skin from free radicals and other damage caused by the environment. It is also rich in fatty oleic acid which is very moisturizing, polyphenols that provides natural UV protection and promote cell renewal, vitamins A, B, D and E, and plant proteins. It's also able to retain moisture very efficiently and it is noncomedogenic.
⠀
Packaging:
For oils, I really like the glass bottle with dropper which is the container that the MO & RHSO uses. The dropper of the RHSO is wider than the MO's. CO comes in a glass bottle with a screw on cap which I don't like, not just for oils but for any skincare product because I sometimes drop the cap and it falls on the floor then I have to obsessively wash it with soap and make sure it's completely dry. Design wise, I love The Ordinary's minimalist design and the CO's vintage-looking bottle. The MO gets zero in the design game but I appreciate that the manufacturing and expiry dates are stamped on the bottle (but already fading because of oil residue rubbing when handling it) but the print is so small and the bottle is pretty dark. ⠀

Texture:
The RHSO appears to be drippy (I'm not sure if the wider-than-usual dropper has anything to do with it) so I think it is slightly thinner in texture than the MO and the CO seems to be the thickest among the three. When I wash my hands and the jade roller after use, the RHSO and MO rinses off easily with soap but the CO leaves a residue.
Scent:
The RHSO has the most distinct smell amongst all and it's not so pleasant. It smells fishy to me, reminds me of salmon but I think I detect a very, very slight hint of rose somewhere there. I don't know if I just got a bad bottle or if it naturally smells like that but it's good that the scent disappears after a while. MO on the other hand has a faint nutty smell which is nice and the CO has no smell at all. Scent wise, the MO is my winner.
⠀
Effect:
I was really surprised that all three oils absorb well over a period of time and didn't make me oily (and I have oily skin). Now for the individual notes, the first oil I used was the MO and I've noticed that I developed these tiny bumps on the sides of my nose near the under eye area but disappeared when I started using the RHSO which was the second oil I tried. While both oils gave me glowing nourished skin that looks well-rested in the morning, I feel like my skin was at its best with the RHSO. No tiny bumps or breakouts. The CO on the other hand was not as nourishing and moisturizing as the other two. I'd say my skin "looked" dry (but didn't feel dry) the following day. I guess the glow was just not there. But no breakouts though so that's good. I'm not sure but maybe this will work for daytime use? I don't think I will try anytime soon as it's summer here and it's hot AF.
⠀
Overall, my favorite is the Rose Hip Seed Oil. The effects my skin gets from it are too awesome to let the scent bother me.
⠀
This is the first time I've done a beauty routine religiously. And I didn't skip a day! Even when I was out one night (until the morning), I forced myself to do the massage - a little effort to keep my skin happy. The jade roller is a total game changer for me! And I have developed a slightly obsessive interest in beauty tools. 🙊 I would love to know if you use a beauty tool that works great for you. If you have posted before, please tag me!

I've been doing the same am and pm routines lately and also continued using the jade roller and Marula Oil for 7 straight nights and I really love how my skin feels and looks well rested, nourished and glowing in the morning! ✨ plus my skin doesn't become an oily mess, just well hydrated. I'm really happy with it. 💕
⠀
But to shake things up a bit, I will try The Ordinary 100% Organic Cold-Pressed Rose Hip Seed Oil and also use it for 7 days and see which I like better and note any differences.
⠀
It also seems like a lot of people use the jade roller in the morning and I am not sure what other products I can use with it aside from oils. It's getting pretty warm here and I would like to use something light. Please, please let me know if you have any suggestions. 🙏🏼

Busted out my jade roller last night. I've only used it once but have had it for months and so I had to look for a video tutorial on how to use it properly and also find out what product I should use it with - a face oil was recommended.
⠀
Why use a jade roller? Aside from giving yourself a relaxing facial massage, using a jade roller increases blood circulation, assists in lymphatic drainage, and helps diminish the appearance of fine lines. It also helps products absorb better.
⠀
Why I chose Marula Oil - it is dubbed as a miracle product that works for all skin types, packed with antioxidants, it balances moisture levels, softens skin, also a great anti-ager, fights acne and heals blemishes and scars. It also absorbs fast.
⠀
🌜 PM Routine: 03.02.13 🌜
#DHC Deep Cleansing Oil (NIP)
#Cerave Foaming Facial Cleanser (NIP)
#MUAC pH Prep Solution
#COSRX AHA 7 Whitehead Power Liquid
#SonandPark Beauty Water
Marula Oil
Jade Roller
#SANA Namerakahonpo Wrinkle Eye Cream
#Naruko Tea Tree Shine Control & Blemish Clear Night Gelly
⠀
I really enjoyed using the jade roller. It was really relaxing and got me sleepy and ready for bed. 😴 I was also happy with the Marula Oil. I was worried at first because I have oily skin and I applied quite a lot to help the jade roller move smoothly. I did pat my face with tissue to absorb excess oil before applying eye cream and night gelly but I actually woke up with nourished and glowing skin and it wasn't oily at all which I was really happy about because my face is normally really oily in the morning when I do my usual pm routine. I will definitely do this often! 💕
